Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) Review, Shuttle, Car Rental

Shuttle, Limousine Service, Car Rental, and Driving Directions to your destination can all be found on this page for your convenience. Adequate and reliable transportation for your Palm Springs California vacation in my opinion is absolutely essential. Unlike Las Vegas where the vast majority of main attractions are situated on two major arteries, Las Vegas Blvd ( The Strip ) and Fremont Street ( Down Town ), places of interest and entertainment venues in Palm Springs and sister Desert Cities Resorts encompass a wide geographic area spreading into popular communities that include La Quinta, Palm Desert, San Jacinto, and several other prime locations.
The city and suburbs are designed and engineered in the traditional simplified Southern California grid style so it's relatively easy to map and navigate the entire area. Once you arrive at Palm Springs International Airport the essential shuttle, car rental, and limousine services options will be readily available on site or arrangements can be made with the touch of a phone. Everyone I talk to recommends a rental or owned car for the duration of the visit to get the most out of your stay. A menu of services is included at the bottom of this page.
REVIEW
Palm Springs International Airport is located in the blossoming picturesque Coachella Valley within Riverside County, a low desert region of Southern California which is served by approximately 10 airlines that accommodate hundreds of cities worldwide. Non stop flights are currently available from the following cities.
- Bellingham, WA (BLI) - Calgary, Alberta (YYC) - Dallas / Fort Worth, TX (DFW) - Denver, CO (DEN) - Edmonton, Alberta (YEG) - Las Vegas, NV (LAS) - Los Angeles, CA (LAX) - Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN (MSP) - O'Hare / Chicago , IL (ORD) - Phoenix, AZ (PHX) - Portland, OR (PDX) - Sacramento, CA (SMF) - Salt Lake City, UT (SLC) - San Francisco, CA (SFO) - Seattle, WA (SEA) - Vancouver, British Columbia (YVR)
- Palm Springs International Airport is within reasonable proximity and driving distance to Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and San Diego Counties and Although many travel through this facility en route to Los Angeles County, the commute can be a little longer depending on your destination -
The airport looks more like a large restaurant or shopping center from a distance and it's one of the most quaint facilities I have ever seen. The architecture matches some areas of the inner city that have maintained a 1960's and 70's retro look over the years. The runways parallel the majestic San Jacinto Mountain Range just off in the distance and when weather conditions are just right, amber or bright pink colored clouds on the horizon accented by the fading evening sun can be viewed at sunset.
The interior facilities are compact to match the airports size and just about everything you need is within very short walking distance. The airline traffic flow in and out of the runway seems to be managed to perfection, very rarely do you see or encounter a backlog of flights waiting to access or leave the airport. Once you step off the plane, baggage pick up is located in a convenient area which is easily identified.
Security is very tight and efficient as it should be with all airports. Currently the policy only allows vehicles that contain baggage for immediate loading or unloading to park at the curb in front of the terminal ticketing & baggage areas and only passengers who possess a ticket are permitted beyond designated checkpoints. Also a valid photo ID is required to board a flight. In my opinion it's an excellent security policy that protects passengers and visitors to the greatest extent possible without becoming an infringement issue.
RESTAURANTS at PSP
There are 6 Restaurants, Bistros & Bars (listed below) at the airport, all are very well maintained and "Fit for a Celebrity" clean. A little pricey for the budget minded but the food and spirits are very good:
- Celebrity Bistro Cafe & Bar - Starbucks - La Brea Bakery & Palm Springs Tap Room Bar - Springs Tap Room Bar - 12th Fairway Bar & Grill - Zia's Smoothie Shop - California Vintages Wine Bar -

AIR TRAVEL TO PALM SPRINGS
If your not a Southern California resident with the option of driving the 1 or 2 hour scenic commute to get there, air travel is certainly the next best and most popular alternative mode of transportation. Except for the occasional light rain or thunder shower, the year round weather in Palm Springs is near perfection for any kind of travel. Spring and Summers are typically hot and on the dry side with temperatures averaging in the 100 degree range, Fall and Winter months usually cool off to a delightful balmy mid 70 degree average. Temperatures can change significantly with the seasons but the dry mild soothing climate still dominates from November thru February and that's good news not only for the visitor but the air traveler as well.
GOLF COURSE HEAVEN
If your not familiar with the history or wealth of outdoor entertainment choices this Southern California desert playground has to offer, shortly after landing and driving around to discover the highlights, you'll realize Palm Springs is world renown for many things including an attractive venue for "Spring Break" activities, hiking the "Joshua Tree National Forest Trails" and "San Jacinto Mountains", premier boutique shopping, fine American and ethnic restaurants, tanning by the pool, and of course it's numerous meticulously designed and maintained golf courses. Palm Springs is home to more 18 hole courses per square mile than any other location in the world and they probably get more year round use as well. The PGA holds many tournaments here and the Pros always give Palm Springs, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and other host cities a big thumbs up.
